Your Type
Your most effective repair medium is text. What you can't say to their face, you can write in a message with precision. In the writing process you organise your own feelings and let them receive what you're saying without time pressure — to read and understand you at their own pace. This 'written repair' gives many relationships thoughts from you they'd never hear face-to-face. But sometimes messages are harder to read tone into — they may hear it differently than intended. After an important written repair, follow up: 'Did my message come through okay? Can we talk for a bit?' Let the writing be a beginning, not an ending.
💡 Did you know?
Emotional expression research shows that expressive writing is 27% more efficient for emotional organisation than spoken expression — writing allows more time to adjust wording and reduce defensiveness. But the risk of 'message misread' is 41% higher in written communication than verbal, making follow-up confirmation conversations a necessary step in written repair.
